Still Have Questions?
An MRI scan, also known as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan, is a radiological procedure that produces detailed images of organs and tissues in the body. The process of having an MRI scan usually involves the following steps
- Schedule an appointment: You can easily book your MRI online, without a long wait, at a time that suits you.
- Preparation: Before the scan, you will be given important information on how best to prepare yourself. You will usually need to remove all metal objects as they can interfere with the magnetic field. Metal objects in the body, such as pacemakers or implants, must be disclosed before the scan as they may make the scan impossible or even dangerous. You should also refrain from wearing jewellery, watches, hair clips and other accessories, and choose clothing without metal parts (zips, metal buttons, etc.).
- How the scan works: You will be greeted at the Boutique practice by our medical professionals, who will escort you to the MRI room. During the scan, you will lie on a couch that is pushed into an opening in the MRI machine. You should lie as still as possible during the scan as movement can affect the quality of the images. The scan itself is painless, but the noise from the machine can be uncomfortable for some people. You can use earplugs or listen to music during the scan.
- Review of the images by a radiologist: After the scan, the images will be read by an experienced radiologist. You will receive your results within 72 hours via the app.
- Discussion of results: As soon as the evaluation is complete, you will discuss the results with our medical staff, who will explain the findings and recommend further steps if necessary.
The length of an MRI appointment depends on the area of the body being scanned and the type of scan being performed. A whole-body scan, such as the one we offer, takes 50 minutes. This is in addition to the time needed for preparation and, if necessary, a blood sample.
Insurance companies generally only cover check-ups under supplementary insurance policies. We have a partnership with KPT where the costs of the Aeon check-up can be reimbursed through supplementary outpatient insurance. However, it is advisable to check directly with your insurance company to see if they will cover the cost of the Aeon check-up.
An MRI scan can show the soft tissues, organs, bones, blood vessels and nerves in the body. It can be used to diagnose a range of conditions and injuries. These include:
- Cancer
- Brain disorders
- Alzheimer's disease and dementia
- Aneurysms
- Spine and discs

MRI uses magnetic fields to produce detailed images of soft tissues, allowing even the smallest injuries or changes in the musculoskeletal system to be seen. Computed tomography (CT) and radiography use X-rays. They are useful for imaging bones and the lungs, for example. PET/CT combines metabolic activity (PET) with anatomical details (CT) and is therefore ideal for diagnosing and staging cancer. Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce real-time images of organs and is often used for abdominal examinations and during pregnancy.
